Nu Directions
Recording Studio
is more than just a place to record...it's a space to grow, find purpose, and express yourself. We believe creativity is a powerful gift that inspires, uplifts, and connects. Founded by musicians for musicians, we help bring meaningful work to life with heart, honesty, and collaboration.

A 40 year legacy.
The Beat Lives On
Before Chuck James Music Schools became a key part of Hawaii’s music education, Chuck James ran a music/drum studio in Kaimuki called New Directions—the same studio where his son Jerome spent afternoons soaking in the musical vibrations.
At a young age, Jerome developed a deep passion for rhythm and sound. Now, Nu Directions Studio honors that legacy—a continuation of Chuck’s vision and the bond they share through music.

Built with Purpose
From Classrooms to Concert Halls
Jerome James is a professional musician, drum instructor, and sound engineer with deep roots in Hawaii’s music scene. Mentored by his father, Chuck James, Jerome has spent his life mastering rhythm and recording, teaching hundreds of students to find their voice through music.
Raiza Garcia is a retired Special Education teacher and certified Behavior Therapist with nearly 20 years of experience. Her passion lies in helping youth express themselves, build confidence, and grow through creativity. With a lifelong love of music, Raiza blends her background in education and behavioral therapy to empower young people to create, not just consume.
Together, they founded Nu Directions Studio—a creative hub where music, mentorship, and youth development meet. Whether it’s drum lessons, recording sessions, or community events, Raiza and Jerome are committed to helping the next generation grow, create, and be heard.
